There is just over a month left for the kick-off of the new season of the Indian Premier League. With this, the IPL fever has started to catch up among cricket lovers in India and around the world. The IPL 2020 Schedule will run from 29 March 2020 to 24 May 2020. Mumbai Indians will come into the tournament as the defending and four-time champions. Like all its previous seasons, this season would also follow a double round-robin format followed by the knockout stage.

The Purple Cap is an award given to the highest wicket-taker in an IPL season. It is the bowling counterpart of the Orange Cap. It was also introduced in the first season of the IPL in 2008. The bowler with the most wickets in the tournament during the season wears the Purple while in the field. In case, two bowlers take the same number of wickets, the Cap is awarded to the bowler with a lower economy rate. Pakistan’s Sohail Tanvir was the first one to get the Purple Cap. Dwayne Bravo and Bhuvneshwar Kumar are the two bowlers with the most number of Purple Caps to their name. Both have got the award twice in their IPl career.

Jasprit Bumrah

The 26-year-old Mumbai Indians is one of the favourites to claim the Purple Cap. He has been consistently taking a good number of wickets since the 2015 season. Bumrah has been a crucial bowler for his IPL team as well as the national side. His pace and ability to bowl yorkers at will make him the ultimate death over bowler. His ability to use the new ball as well as the old ball is also another weapon in his bowling arsenal. Although he was out of form against New Zealand in the ODI after his return from injury, there is no question on the Jasprit Bumrah bowling prowess. Anyone would easily pick him into their dream11 prediction team.

Trent Boult

The kiwi pacer recently climbed up the top spot of ICC ODI bowler’s rankings. Boult was part of the Delhi Capitals in the previous season, but this time around he was bought by Mumbai Indians. Last season, Boult could only play in five matches for Delhi. He took as many wickets in those matches with an average of 32.60. The left-hander is known for hitting the deck hard and unsettling the batsmen with his disguised bouncers. Boult’s ability to bowl outswingers and to take wickets in the time of crunch is very useful for whatever team he is in for winning more points in the IPL Points Table.

Shreyas Gopal

The all-rounder from Karnataka made his IPL debut in the 2014 season but didn’t get to play a lot in the initial years. In his 31 match IPL career, the leg spinner has taken a total of 38 wickets, 31 of which came in the last two seasons, while playing for the Rajasthan Royals. He has 64 wickets to his name in the 40 List A games that he has played. He was also the second-highest wicket-taker in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2019/2020 and played a crucial role in Karnataka’s triumph in the tournament. Rajasthan Royals would expect a good haul of wickets from him in the 2020 IPL season.
