With the appointment of Mickey Arthur as the new head coach on Thursday, the Sri Lankan cricket board overhauled The Islander’s coaching team.

Arthur was already close to leading the coaching staff of the Sri Lankan cricket team, as he was speculating on signing a two-year contract with Lanka.

Although Sri Lanka defeated Pakistan in the shortest format under the leadership of the then Sarfaraz Ahmed and captured a remarkable tour on Pakistani soil, they managed a well-established coaching regime after the ICC World Cup 2019 in England and Wales last summer. Remained without are doing.

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) CEO Ashley de Silva has previously revealed that South Africa is on the verge of replacing Chandika Hathurasinghe, who was heavily criticized during the tournament’s opening leg following Sri Lanka’s performance in the 2019 World Cup.

Thus, Arthur took over the interim acting Ramesh Ratnayake of The Islanders, who was in charge of the side during the limited-overs series in Pakistan.

During the official unveiling of his new coach, Sri Lankan cricket secretary Mohan de Silva said the top board was happy with Arthur’s appointment as the 1996 World Cup winners would have been left without a proper coach after England and Wales were eliminated from the competition.

“We are delighted Mikki and hope that his experience in Asia will help build our team to a higher level,” De Silva told reporters in Colombo.

According to a report by Cricbuzz, it is learned that Arthur has been appointed as the advisory head coach of the Sri Lankan cricket team.

Mr Lank will appoint Grant Flower, who has been named in charge of the batting department with Arthur on the coaching staff.

Phool has also been made the head coach of Sri Lanka ‘A’ team. Australian David Sucker will look after the bowling department while Shane McDermott has been named the fielding coach.

Arthur has previously enjoyed coaching stints with Pakistan, South Africa and Australia.
