NBA Trades - Who Is The Most Active Team Right Now?

NBA Trades are about the future. They are about how teams need to move around in order to get the best players in order to bring in the most talent to their roster, or if they are getting ready to buy low and still have money to spend.

NBA Trades can take a number of different forms. The best ones include drafting a player (which is usually done through trades where one team acquires a player in exchange for a draft pick), trading the draft pick and then re-signing the player, getting the player in a trade for a draft pick or free agent, using a trade exception to buy low, getting a player in a trade with a draft pick attached, getting a player in a trade with another team, getting a player in a trade for a free agent, acquiring a player for a trade exception and then re-signing that player, getting a player from a trade and then trading him or her to another team, and finally, using the amnesty provision on a player.

For NBA Trade Day, we have seen some pretty heavy trade activity and several trades taking place at once. It will take several weeks to settle down, but the end result will be a great deal of movement.

This weekend was very active as well with more than 20 trades taking place, the majority involving the Philadelphia 76ers. This will come as no surprise, as it was reported just a few days ago that they were in hot pursuit of New Orleans point guard, Jrue Holiday.

I have always been a believer that if there is a true talent, this is the year to acquire them. Last year there were numerous teams out to get Kevin Garnett and he ended up signing with the Minnesota Timberwolves. This year we will have several other teams chasing this year’s high draft picks such as the Cleveland Cavaliers, Orlando Magic, Denver Nuggets, Los Angeles Lakers, Chicago Bulls, Dallas Mavericks, Detroit Pistons, Milwaukee Bucks, Houston Rockets, Minnesota Timberwolves, San Antonio Spurs, Phoenix Suns, Portland Trail Blazers, Sacramento Kings, New York Knicks, and many more.

I would like to emphasize the value of the upcoming draft. The NBA Draft is a great time to be able to add young talent and not have to pay a huge contract and have a young player only play for your final two years in the league.

One of the best assets for teams looking to make a trade is that you do not need a final piece in order to be successful. Teams that are struggling need to acquire players and they can easily turn to “good” veteran role players to help the team. This is true for all teams, but it is especially true for those in the middle of the pack that are trying to contend.

So, now you know how NBA Trades work and the importance of the NBA Draft and how it is used to trade up for the top picks, which is exactly what most teams are doing right now. Stay tuned next week as we discuss a few other trades that have taken place so far in the NBA Trade season.
