The 22-year-old guy was sold to Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs. 5 crores last year but failed to make the toughest season for the Virat Kohli, led franchise in which they ended up with a wooden spoon. Hetmyer scored only 90 runs in 5 matches of the season, and could not make an impact.

But in the first ODI against India last week, Hetmeyer caught the franchise’s attention with his match-winning century. He scored 139 runs in 106 balls to give Chepauk an easy win by 8 wickets.

Meanwhile, Australian paceman Pat Cummins became the most expensive foreign player in the history of the Indian Premier League auction when he was sold to Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs 15.5 crore on Thursday.

The Australian fast bowler attracted a bidding war between the Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi capitals. When the price went up to Rs 14 crore, KKR intervened and took the player.
