Muscular Body

We all want to look our best. And while a new hairstyle or effective skincare routine can do wonders for our confidence, the key to feeling great every time you step out the door is a fantastic wardrobe.

That said, building the perfect wardrobe is more difficult than it sounds. It’s not just about picking out clothes that suit your style. Though the style is important, you also have to consider your body type.

Those who have spent countless hours in the gym to develop a muscular body type have an even tougher job. There’s a fine line between highlighting your muscles and making yourself look like a caricature of a muscular person.

If you’re feeling a bit lost in the fashion department, we’re here to help. To learn all the style ideas and tips you need to choose clothes that flatter your muscular figure, just keep reading!

  1. Start With the Right Fit

The first step for anyone looking for a new wardrobe, but especially those with a muscular build, is to find the right fit. Clothes that are too loose will appear baggy and mask all the hard work you’ve put in at the gym.

You might think too-tight clothing is a good option, as it accentuates your muscles, but this is a fashion mistake. Clothing that’s too tight (even if it’s intentional) will make it appear as though you aren’t sure of your size, not to mention you’ll look like you’re about to burst out of it! The best fit is one that’s snug without being restrictive.

  1. Stick to Neutrals

When you have a muscular body, your body is the statement piece! And remember, with fashion, you typically only want to wear one statement piece at a time. With that in mind, there’s no need to wear flashy colors.

Wearing bright colors will actually draw attention away from your body instead of toward it. Instead, the bulk of your wardrobe should be made up of neutrals.

Now, this doesn’t mean that you can never wear a bright color again or that you have to only wear black and white for the rest of your life. “Neutral” here doesn’t mean beige and grey; it simply means choosing desaturated colors over vibrant ones.

For example, if your favorite color is green, you could choose a forest green shirt rather than one closer to lime green.

  1. Don’t Wear Heavy Layers

The thing about having a fit body is that your muscles provide plenty of bulk all on their own. By adding heavy layers on top of them, you’re creating too much volume. This is unflattering on just about anyone, and if you have a muscular body type, it tends to look even more awkward.

That being said, layering is a staple technique of any type of style. You can, and should, layer your clothing, just stick to light layers rather than bulky ones. This will keep you warm and stylish without making you appear boxy.

  1. Find a Good Tailor

The number one style tip we can give you, no matter your body type, is to find a good tailor and use them often. No two bodies are exactly the same, even if they’re technically the same size.

A tailor will take pieces that fit you well and turn them into pieces that fit you perfectly. If you want to take it a step further, buy clothes that are one size too large for you. Then, take them to a tailor for fitting and refining – everything you own will look as if it were stitched just for you!

  1. Avoid Heavy Textures

We’ve already discussed heavy layers, now let’s talk a bit about heavy textures. There’s nothing wrong with a thick cloth, knitting, crocheting, or busy patterns in general; however, they won’t look flattering on your muscular frame.

Like heavy layers, heavy textures will hide your hard work while making you appear bulky and shapeless.

When you have muscles, you should show them off! To do so, go with simple patterns and light fabrics whenever possible.

  1. Build a Base First

Any good wardrobe starts with a strong base. Think of this as a capsule wardrobe without restrictions. You start with a set of clothes that fit well and go with anything, then you style them with accessories and other pieces.

When it comes to your base, don’t be afraid to find a brand that suits you well and stick to it. There’s no shame in brand loyalty! And in fact, shopping with the same brand makes things much easier, as you know exactly how each piece will fit you and the sizes you need.

The great thing is, there are tons of bodybuilding clothing brands to choose from! These are brands specifically tailored toward those with a muscular build like you.

  1. Dress for Your Shoulders

We all have a favorite body part, one that we find most attractive in ourselves. Whether it’s your arms, your legs, or your midriff, your wardrobe should accentuate it!

That said, when you have a muscular body, it’s a good idea to pay the closest attention to your shoulders when shopping for clothes. If your clothing bunches or stretches at the shoulders, it will make the entire outfit look wrong.

It’s better to get a top that’s a little too big in the shoulders and have it tailored than one that’s too tight.

Look Fashionable With Your Muscular Body Type

Finding pieces that work for your muscular body type can be tough, but building a flattering wardrobe is absolutely worth the effort. With the right wardrobe, you’ll feel a drastic increase in your confidence and accentuate your body in all the right places.
