l Game at Manchester

David Moyes was hand-picked as the man to replace Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford in the summer of 2013. Moyes took over the side that had just been led to the Premier League title with an eleven point gap over Manchester City. Nobody could have foreseen how the Red Devils were going to fall from grace, with Moyes expected to continue the good work that he had done at Everton.

The reality was anything but a success, with Moyes finally relieved of his duties at Old Trafford less than ten months after landing his dream job. The final nail in the coffin came on the 20th April, with United beaten convincingly by Everton. Moyes was fired one day later after it was officially impossible for United to finish in the Champions League places.

That meant that the Red Devils were to miss out on playing in the top-tier of European football for the first time since the 1989-90 season. But, where are some of the stars from that last Moyes defeat at Goodison Park?

Still At The Red Devils

There are a number of stars that remain at Old Trafford since the fateful Moyes era. David de Gea, Phil Jones and Juan Mata are among those. Chris Smalling also started in the 2-0 defeat. Jones has defied many people’s expectations by still being contracted to United, but he could be sold in the coming transfer window.

Mata has been a brilliant servant for the Red Devils and was likely the best signing of the Moyes era. De Gea has gone on the become one of the very best United goalkeepers, but his first-team chances could also be affected from next season with the impressive Dean Henderson returning from his loan spell at Sheffield United. But, the Spaniard has recently admitted that he hopes to be at Old Trafford for many seasons to come.

Players That Have Since Departed

Ten of the fourteen players that were involved in that 2-0 defeat have since left United; either after being sold or retiring. Jonny Evans is the only player that has left the club and continued to play consistently in the Premier League, as he has played for West Bromwich Albion and Leicester City over the past six years. Many fans often wondered why Evans was sold before Jones and Smalling as he has been one of the most consistent players in the Premier League.

Alexander Buttner, Darren Fletcher and Shinji Kagawa all started the game, but none of them would play a single game under Louis van Gaal as they were sold in the summer. Luis Nani also started the game, and he was also loaned out for the season.

Danny Welbeck was brought on as a second-half substitution in the game, but he was sold in the summer after van Gaal admitted that he wasn’t convinced that he was a natural goalscorer. Welbeck moved to Arsenal, before joining Watford in the summer of 2019. However, injuries have restricted the number of games that he has been able to play.

Michael Carrick and Wayne Rooney were also involved from the start of that Everton clash, with both players playing under van Gaal and Jose Mourinho before departing the club. Rooney brought an end to his legendary career at Old Trafford in the summer of 2017 as he rejoined Everton. Then he went to the USA, where MLB baseball online betting is still the most popular sport in the odds, to join LA Galaxy in the Major League Soccer. Now he is player coach of Derby Country in the Championship.

Carrick retired a year later before he joined the United coaching staff. The former midfielder remains an integral part of the United team, as he is the first-team coach at Old Trafford.

There you go. How do you rate David Moyes time at Old Trafford? Was he the worst coach of Manchester United post Alex Ferguson or he was just a victim of bad timing and media pressure?
