Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve surely heard about the K-pop sensation called Blackpink. The all-female group of rappers has just made it in the US mainstream, breaking major records along the way.

Blackpink has just released its first Korean studio album titled “The Album” in October 2020.

One could say that K-pop bands have it easy. These supergroups are designed to succeed, yet many of them fail. While most K-pop stars take it easy and try to slide into the US mainstream, Blackpink went another way. Like the, they rolled the on the US market straight from the beginning and it paid off big time. It was a high-risk, high-reward kind of move and it brought them international recognition.

In just 4 short years, Blackpink have done more than any other K-pop star in the West. They are the highest-charting female Korean act on the Billboard Hot 100 when their single “Ice Cream” debuted at number 13. Their most recent album simply titled The Album, peaked at number 2 on the Billboard 200. This comes in addition to being the first K-pop girl group to win an MTV Music Video Award and several records on the biggest streaming platform in the world – Youtube.

While some artists are struggling to become famous for decades, Blackpink’s meteoric rise occurred in only 4 years. The group debuted in 2016, and in 2020, their popularity will grow even further thanks to the release of the Netflix movie that documents their amazing career so far rusticotv.

Blackpink: Light Up the Sky

This October, Blackpink’s meteoric rise will be documented on Netflix. Called Blackpink: Light Up the Sky, it shows Jennie, Jisoo, Lisa, and Rose in a new light. The all-access documentary covers the band’s career since their beginning and includes never-before-seen video footage of the early years.

It also covers some personal stuff such as an inside look into the lives of all four members. They give honest interviews about their career and personal lives and views while being treated like celebrities all along.

The Netflix documentary is another major proof of how far Blackpink has gone. The superb K-pop project broke out in the USA last year with their Coachella performance that drew the attention of major pop starts. Their new album features Cardy B on a track and that’s a true testament to the group’s meteoric rise.
