India’s head coach Ravi Shastri said that if the World Cup-winning captain decides that he is good enough to play forward for India after the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020, MS Dhoni will be in contention.

There are speculations about MS Dhoni’s international future as the experienced wicketkeeper-batsman has not played international cricket since India’s exit from the semi-finals in the World Cup 2019.

MS Dhoni took a sabbatical from in international cricket and missed India’s first assignment after the World Cup – a tour of the West Indies. Dhoni trained for two weeks with the Territorial Army – 106 TA Battalion (Para) in Jammu and Kashmir.

Dhoni missed the home series against Bangladesh and South Africa, even as chief selector MSK Prasad indicated that India is looking ahead and there will be youngsters like Rishabh Pant for next year’s T20 World Cup. I am focusing on giving opportunities.

MS Dhoni is a legend, won't force himself on Team India said Ravi Shastri

His training while training in Ranchi sparked speculation of a comeback for the West Indies series, in which Dhoni’s name was missing from the limited-overs squad.

In particular, Dhoni requested the media not to ask questions about his return by January 2020 at a promotional event last month.

While Dhoni’s international future has become the subject of intense speculation, head coach Ravi Shastri has been clear about the team management’s approach on the issue.

Speaking to India Today consulting editor Sports Boria Majumdar in the much-awaited episode of India Today Inspiration, Ravi Shastri said that MS Dhoni Sr. would not try to impose himself in the national team.

“He is everything a legend. The last thing he wants is to impose himself on an Indian team that knows him. He wants to take a break, but he is going to play IPL.

The more games he has played. If he. Gets himself into controversies… if he feels after the IPL that ‘I’m good enough to play for India’, don’t mess with him, “said Ravi Shastri.

If the recent developments are seen, it seems that MS Dhoni may not be part of India’s team for the tour of New Zealand early next year. However, in next year’s IPL, Chennai Super Kings captain will prove to be yellow.
