Jasprit Bumrah will not feature in the Ranji Trophy game to be held in Gujarat. The Indian fast bowler was supposed to prove his fitness in the Ranji Trophy match between Gujarat and Kerala after he took a break due to his lower back injury.

Bumrah did not feature in the Elite Group A game at Lalabhai Contractor Stadium in Surat.

Bumrah was put in the Indian squad for Home T20s and ODIs against Sri Lanka and Australia for next month and was also expected to be present for the Ranji Trophy game for Gujarat.

Given the hectic schedule, he expressed his concern and requested to take some workload off to ensure a smoother comeback.

Bumrah consulted with BCCI president Sourav Ganguly and BCCI secretary Jay Shah. Shah and Ganguly gave him a green light. They suggested Bumrah focus on white-ball cricket for now and extended his break.

Thus, pulling him out of Ranji Trophy match. Now, Bumrah will directly appear against Sri Lanka.

There is still a rife whether Bumrah will be present for series with Australia. Bumrah had trained with team India before the second ODI against West Indies, which was recently concluded, in Vishakhapatnam.

Bumrah’s trainer and the physio have given him a green light to join the team.

The Indian Team Management asked Bumrah to report at Vizag to assess his recovery and test whether he is eligible to join the team back. He has gone through rehabilitation.

Bumrah still went to the UK for the consultation even though BCCI advised against it given his back injury.

The Gujarat Management is not impressed by the concession given to Bumrah by the national selection panel to allow him to play four to eight overs a day. They believe that the concession is not justifiable.

Team India is scheduled to play three ODIs against Australia and three T20s against Sri Lanka next month. Following this, team India will fly to New Zealand ad play five T20s, three ODIs, and two Test matches.
